MS. ONEIDA TANGUMA
Advanced Dance Instructor
Oneida Pilar Silguero-Tanguma was born in Laredo, Texas. Her love and passion for dance started when she was 2 years old and being from a very small town... dance studios were not available. Her grandmother introduced her to Ballet Folklorico at a very young age and it quickly evolved into her undying love for dance.
She danced and competed for a dance studio in Laredo, Tx in flamenco, jazz, and tap. As she got into junior high and playing sports traveling 2 hours almost every other day was extremely hard. In 1997 her mother and her decided to open a studio and name it Dance Xpression and it grew to about 54 students. It all came to an end in 2002 as she graduated High School and continued her education at The University of Texas at Austin where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology and Minored in Education in 2006.
While she attended UT she was a part of their powerlifting team, Ballet Folklorico team and handball team. In 2004 she took ballet folklorico to a professional level and auditioned for Roy Lozano’s Ballet Folklorico and was a part of their team until 2007. During this time she also taught ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballet folklorico, flamenco competitively. She currently teaches as an elementary school teacher at George Evans Elementary in Corpus Christi.
During her course of living in Austin she was also part of Austin’s Dance crew, appeared in several music videos one being “Hasta Que Muera” By Smackola featuring Willie Alvarado, a commercial for Juju Photo Factory, and was a model for DiamondGirlz Model Management; where she has done several dance photo shoots, a cover for a calendar and local fashion shows.
